Windross Playing Day 16 April 2026

🏌️‍♂️ Nomads Golf– Windross Farm Golf Club

Thursday, 16 April 2026

Nomads Golf Club’s outing at Windross Farm yesterday turned into one of those rounds that will be talked about for a while. With 32 Nomads taking on a course already known for its exposed layout, the very windy conditions added a layer of challenge that demanded patience, creativity, and a good sense of humour. Windross Farm can be unforgiving on a calm day; in gusts, it becomes a true test of ball flight control and decision‑making.

Despite the conditions, spirits stayed high. The group embraced the challenge, navigating crosswinds that turned routine shots into small adventures. Drives that started down the middle drifted into unfamiliar territory, and approaches required careful calculation just to hold the greens. Speaking of greens, they were running fast, adding another dimension to the day. Downhill putts needed only the lightest touch, and even short attempts could quickly get away from anyone who wasn’t fully committed.

What stood out most was the camaraderie. Nomads thrive in adversity, and the shared struggle against the elements brought plenty of laughs and memorable moments. Some players managed to piece together impressive rounds despite the wind, while others simply enjoyed the battle and the company.

Overall, it was a day that showcased exactly what makes Nomads golf special: good people, a quality course, and the ability to turn tough conditions into a great experience. Windross Farm delivered a stern test, and the Nomads met it with resilience, humour, and the usual sense of community that defines every outing.

Windross Sponsor

Bruce Aitken from Tantalus Estate on Waiheke was our sponsor for the day. Bruce gave a very informative talk on why we should buy direct from wine producers. He said that you will not save any money but you are supporting the winery direct and they have a much better profit margin than selling through a retailer or supermarket. Support NZ wine growers and all types of NZ producers.

Bruce is offering Nomads a limited offer of 15% discount on all wines by entering NOMADS in the coupon box at checkout.

Bruce donated several dozen Tantalus wines and wine accessories. Many thanks Bruce
