New Zealand Golf – Press Release 17 June, 2016
New Zealand Golf is pleased to announce a new partnership with Nomads Golf Club (NZ) Inc as the organisation takes over the naming rights of the ‘Nomads New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships’.
Nomads Golf was first established in South Africa in 1960, with Gary Player as the Patron of the club. As its members were drawn from various clubs and played their regular competitions on a variety of different courses, the Nomads name seemed particularly appropriate.
Nomads Golf flourished in the Republic and the movement then spread over time to Zimbabwe, Botswana, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Today Nomads NZ has a local membership of over 115 which is steadily growing. Internationally, there are close to three thousand Nomads, all committed to the ideals of the furtherance of the game of golf and guided by the principles of raising funds for those less fortunate than themselves. To this extent Nomads NZ has made charitable donations to NZ Organisations in excess of $475,000 since its inception in 1997.
The new partnership with New Zealand Golf will span over the next three years and will enable the Nomads organisation to give back to the game they love and help develop young athletes nationwide.
Fred Hawke, Nomads New Zealand Club Captain was excited to announce the national partnership.
“Our vision is to promote the enjoyment of golf, good fellowship and fundraising for worthy causes. The Nomads New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship is a breeding ground for the next generation of golfers and we are excited to see how many kids progress from this tournament to the next level”.
The partnership cements the Championship in the New Zealand golfing calendar and shows the benefit the tournament delivers nationwide.
Nick Rowland, Commercial Manager of New Zealand Golf was delighted to formalise the latest partnership with Nomad’s Golf.
“The Nomads have always been committed to growing the game within New Zealand and we have been working with them in a number of ways over the last few years. It is great to now be able to formalise a partnership to continue to grow the game at a youth level. The Nomads Golf Days are always well attended and the support we constantly receive shows that the organisation really lives up to their overall vision.”
The Nomads New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship kicks off at the Nelson Golf Club on Monday 29 August 2016.
